When Josey was seven, her life took an unexpected turn with a diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a rare bone marrow disorder. Doctors at MD Anderson discovered a genetic mutation causing her illness—a mutation her younger sister, Bristol, also carries. Josey’s journey through treatment was intense: a stem cell transplant, weeks in isolation, and months away from home. Her mom recalls how difficult it was to explain why the treatments would make her feel so sick before making her better. Now, a decade later, she says with relief, “Josey is completely cured!”
During treatment, a friend recommended Camp Quality, describing it as something they “really needed to get into.” They attended a family retreat that spring, and from that moment on, Camp Quality became an essential part of their lives. “It (has) been the most wonderful experience for the girls ever!” Josey and Bristol have made lifelong friends and look forward to reuniting every summer.
For their family, Camp Quality is more than a camp—it’s a second family, giving the “girls such confidence and feeling of belonging.” At camp they especially enjoy the talent show, fishing, and ziplining. “Of all their summer choices, CQ is always at the top of the list,” their mom says. “We can’t imagine summer without it.”
