Become a Camp Quality Companion

A camper's "best friend for the week" is their Camp Quality Companion. The caring and supportive relationship between the pair begins at camp, and continues to be fostered throughout the year. In many cases, Camp Q. Kids develop such strong friendships with their quality companions that they ask to be matched up year after year.

Camp Q. Companions come from all walks of life-- teachers, college students, lawyers, young professionals, retired professionals, police officers, firefighters. Quality companions must be willing to invest their time, energy and heart into the experience of their camper . . . but the return is priceless.

An overview of companion qualifications include: provide a list of 2 references, pass a personal interview, successfully clear a security check, attend the companion/staff training workshop, make contact with the camper as soon as an assignment is made, attend the full length of camp, adhere to the rules governing Camp Quality, give round the clock companionship to your camper while at camp, maintain contact with the camper throughout the year through email, mail, phone calls or visits. The minimum age for any companion is 18, but there is no upper age limit. If a person is "young at heart" and can stand the rigor of being a 24- hour guardian for one of our campers, we want you!  For a more complete list of guidelines, click here.

Your first step to becoming a Quality Companion can now be completed online! Fill out the Preliminary Staff/Companion Application Form, select the camp location you would like to attend, click the submit button and it will instantly be forwarded to the appropriate camp.  You may also download the complete application by clicking here.  The file is in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.  If you need to install Adobe Acrobat on your computer, you may download it for free by clicking here.  For a list of camp mailing addresses, click here.

In accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, if you are under the age of 13, please have your parent fill out this form.

Note to all potential companions:
At your personal interview, you will be asked to read through and initial the rules of Camp Quality USA, Inc.  The following are some of those rules.

 I understand and agree that:

  • I may not discuss alternative medicine with any child at camp.
  • All medicine for campers, including such things as headache tablets, etc., must be administered by Medical Staff Only!
  • All first aid is to be administered by the Medical Staff-- this includes the removal of splinters and treatment of minor cuts.
  • I will not bring tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs to camp nor will I use these on the grounds of the camp.
  • I will not press any particular health food or diet on any child at camp.
  • Caring for a large group of children with cancer is, in itself, stressful.
    • The only way to relieve some of this stress is to ensure every companion assigned to care for a child, fully understands the demands of their role.
    • The safety and happiness of the camper ALWAYS COMES FIRST!
    • If I am assigned as a companion, I fully understand that if I do not care for my camper as instructed, I will be asked to leave camp.
  • A view of a loving Creator and a life after death are of vital importance to most of our campers, and I can and will support them in this hope.
  • No religious denominations may be promoted at camp.
  • Even though rest periods are rarely popular with the youth, I agree to observe horizontal rest periods.
  • Specific personnel have been assigned to handle media coverage. I will not contact the media, nor release any names, photographs, or articles without first securing written permission of the camp director.
  • I may not bring any child under 18 years to camp.
  • I must attend a Staff Training Workshop before I can be assigned a staff position. I agree to attend the orientation meeting held at the campground prior to the start of camp. (You will be notified of dates and times.)
